By June 15, 2010 every employer in Ontario must have taken specific steps to protect their workers from violence and harassment in their workplace(s). To meet the minimum legislative requirements employers must:
- Complete a violence assessment for each workplace location within their organization.
- Report assessment results to their Joint Health & Safety Committee, Safety Representative and/or staff
- Implement controls based on the hazards identified by the violence assessment.
- Prepare a workplace violence policy
- Prepare a workplace harassment policy
- Implement programs to support their workplace violence and harassment policies
